Ekphrastic writing invites you to describe, interpret, or reflect on a work of art, building a bridge between imagery and language. While often associated with poetry, this program welcomes all forms of creative expression—poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction alike. 

In this workshop, participants will use visual art as a catalyst for their writing. Each session will focus on the works in different exhibits.The program begins in the galleries with a brief presentation by a Michener docent or staff member, offering insight into the artist and their work. From there, workshop leaders from the Volta Center for Writing Arts will guide participants through generative writing prompts designed to spark creativity, break through blocks, and develop vivid, sensory-rich language.
